The Clay Mushroom Village interactive worshop
These are some images of the interactive workshop that Heidi Hockenjos, Rosie McConnell, Nick Cardy, Laura O'Callaghan-White, and myself ran at the Aberystwyth International Ceramic Festival. The project was funded by the Student Award prize of the festival. We constructed large mushroom shapes from chicken wire and clay, and invited festival go-ers to add their own work to the pieces; as you can see from the images, people were able to add whatever they wanted to the structures, using basic handbuilding methods and press moulds. The installation was designed as an ethereal work, concerned only with people interacting with the clay at a very basic level, and the pieces were not fired to enable works to be added without fear of shrinkage or cracking. The installation lasted for 2 days, and was then removed.
